So my theory with the Twitter thing is this. They want to kill Nitter/similar, they want to kill scrapers using logins to bypass it, but most importantly Twitter wants to reduce user loss by locking users in.

They've been nudging people with this since locking NSFW to logins and then locking out Nitter from it. Want to look at that dank furry porn? Sorry bud. Gotta log in.

They're now applying the same thing to people like my dad who would doomscroll Twitter without an account and see what their favorite TV celebs and news guys were saying about Trump/Desantis/trans kids. The idea is that Joe Normie will make an account to view this. He won't use the fediverse because Rachel Maddow or Tucker or NPR (depending on who he voted for) is not on the fediverse.

When Twitter rolls it back they won't do shit. They'll go back.
Case in point, every single grifting RW eceleb either uses Twitter, or if they're banned about 4 million garbage platforms, including one that is literally non-federated Mastodon.

Shit, Alex Jones would rather use non-federated Mastodon platforms over the fedi.

The one thing I've learned from people is that instead of leaving Twitter, they will make new alts to evade bans (see Groypers and "find my frens" becoming a minor meme, Nick Monroe and his endless alt accounts until he gets jannied for ban evasion, etc.) because they see Twitter as ground zero for public discourse, a ticket to fame, etc.

The only people who go to fedi have to take the initiative, be in the right mindset, and not think it's just like Twitter, because it's not like Twitter.

You honestly have a better chance at becoming famous in a small community than drowning in the endless sea that is Twitter.

I've known this for years honestly. Nobody else gets it.
