Good government is defined as one that makes bad people afraid. Bad Government makes good people afraid. It really is that simple.

@ArdainianRight Using force to make people afraid, and force them to comply. That is by definition, terrorism.

@xianc78 Pulling out a gun to threaten the burglar who broke into your house, and forcing him to flee or else be killed, is not terrorism. It's not even anti-lolbert.
@xianc78 I don't care so much about that, because it's an important job that needs to be done. The point is that good government sympathizes with the homeowner, bad government sympathizes with the burglar. You can talk all you want about private police and covenant communities, but that is the one big distinction I care about most. I'd rather support Singapore than private police forces beholden to ESG, DIE, or some similar scheme.

@ArdainianRight Shit like ESG and DIE wouldn't exist without public-private partnership. That's not capitalist at all.

@xianc78 Yes, but I could plausibly see it being applicable were the US to remain as is while some place in Latin America or whatever went ancap. You'd only be safe from such machinations if all or most of the world went ancap, which I do not foresee. Small pockets of anarchocapitalism can absolutely be subverted by globalist forces. It could still well be an improvement, depending on the place.

I know. Which is why I'm afraid that environmentalism is going to be the excuse to crackdown on seasteading. Though one based on a right-wing religious cult (which you suggested a while back) would probably be even worse because people tend to associate cults with terrorism these days, given them a better excuse to take them over.

Either way, cops are inefficient, in my opinion. It takes time for them to get all the way to the store and robberies and shoplifting can be quick depending on the situation. It's better to hire an armed guard to be at the place at all times, or allow conceal carry at the store. And if you think killing shoplifters is too far, you don't have to be lethal, tazing or rubber bullets could get them to stop.

@xianc78 Killing shoplifters is good. Good government will thank you for your service, bad government will punish you for this.

@ArdainianRight I'm not against that. Hopefully, you aren't prone to PTSD.
