Tetris® gameplay being under trademark quite feels like "we have a trademark on all bicycles, if you want out of it make a tricycle or a motorbike" and it's a trademark so… can it even expire?
@lanodan yeah a concept can't really be trademarked. Panted sure but not trademarked. I doubt it'd stand up in court very well.

@sjw @lanodan Game designs can't be copyrighted, patented, or trademarked. You can write a 1:1 clone of any game as long as it doesn't use any trademarks, copyrighted code, characters, etc.

@xianc78 @sjw Couldn't care less if in the scrolls you shouldn't be able to, as in practice The Tetris Company got rulings in their favors and also managed to shutdown several games.

@lanodan @sjw Like what? I know that Nintendo had tried to patent game mechanics (talking about gameplay, nothing engine related) only to get rejected.
