So I found an online AI tool for generating game assets, but it looks like it can only generate generic mobile indieshit icons, and of course the TOS probably has some condition where they still own the assets it generates, so it's fucking useless.

I need to save up for a REALLY powerful PC so I can generate this stuff locally without some shitty service that fucks you over with their restrictive terms of service. I'm sick of relying on stock assets and I can never be a good artist due to hand dexterity issues.

@xianc78 SDXL models can use >16GB of vram, so my recommendation is a 24GB 3000 series. 3090ti if you can swing it, or a 3090 (what i got for this). if you don't need to generate images 1024px on any side, you can get away with an 8 or 12GB card, such as a 2080ti or a 3060.

If you want to get some work in, the intel arc with 16GB kinda works for stable diffusion, and you might be able to get some cheap. Ignore that people complain about black images - you just need to turn off floating point.

@xianc78 don't get an intel arc or an AMD or anything other than an nvidia if you're gunna use it with windows. Just trust me on that.

even the nvidia stuff is a bit slower on windows (there's no Triton Kernel for windows yet), but at least python and everything see the GPU fine and it generally just works, for stable diffusion, for LLMs, for whisper, for spleeter, etc etc etc

@picofarad I don't plan on using it with Windows. I only use Linux unless I absolutely have to use something else.

@xianc78 alright then. I have a 3060 on linux and it works fine for all workloads except SDXL

@gentoobro @xianc78 whaddup gentoo

I haven't mained gentoo in a while and i'm starting to miss it. It is running a bunch of infra for me, but i only touch that once a month or so

@picofarad @xianc78 I've given up running anything else on my machines. Too many hard-to-fix problems on other distros.

It used to be that Nvidia was the only practical option for linux.

@gentoobro @xianc78 oh, this is just for doing stable diffusion specifically. The AMD drivers are behind (SHOCKING) and the intel Arc is very new and has ... quirks (intel quirky gtfo).

For gaming it's how much you wanna spend, and how fast your display is. For other AI/ML i'm unsure, i've only done SD on all three card types, not whisper, LLM, other matmul/vec stuff
