Nintendo Direct announced for tomorrow 10AM EST

Probably the big last Switch 1 direct
@coolboymew if they call it the Switch 2 imma laugh my ass off
@teto Why wouldn't they? The Wii U name fucked them up badly
@coolboymew @teto

Yeah the Wii U name was a bad decision because Casuals and non-gamers were thought it was an add-on more than a new console. Didn't help that at the time of the wii U release there was a drawing tablet game that came out for the Wii and made more non-gamers confused.

Speaking of Wii U Gamepads I ended up getting a free NA Gamepad yesterday someone had in storage that they threw at me for doing pc repairs for them super cheap over the years. I also got tossed a copy of "a boy and his blob" for the NES too. Not sure what I'm gonna do with it yet though.
@ooignignoktoo @teto True, there were a bunch of drawing tablets too

Also the Wii U is when Nintendo's marketing started to wane and suck, so the ad didn't explain anything at all

@ooignignoktoo @teto @coolboymew I still hate how they used purple as the default color. Personally, I would've had it be purple in Japan and black elsewhere.

@xianc78 @teto @coolboymew I got my gamecube late on 03' and had a black DOL-001 model. Personally I would've loved to have had the spice orange. It's stupid they gave us the gamecube controller in spice orange but not the console. The orange looked way better than the purple ( which didn't help with the kiddy image it had in the 2000's ). 2020's people love gamecube but it was generally hated back in the day because westerners wanted edgy / mature xbox and PS2. GameCube had great games though 1st party but the optical media used did put a lot of restraints on 3rd party dev. With that said 3rd party adoption for it was way better than the N64 era.

I don't understand why you couldn't strike a balance. Looking back on it, only Microsoft went all out on mature games after Blinx failed. Sony, Nintendo, and Sega seemed to strike a balance despite slightly leaning towards one or the other.

They could've done the exact opposite with the optical media and actually make even bigger discs. It is rumored that Sony originally wanted to do it with the PS1, hence the large disc-tray.

I didn't fully understand back then either. I loved the gamecube when I was a teenager. I had a PS2 as my first system of that gen for Metal Gear Solid 2 and I liked my PS2 until it got the DRE after a year of owning it.

Ended up getting a Gamecube later on and an Xbox late in it's life cycle ( sadly I didn't have xbox live so the experience was gimped ). Gamecube had better games offline than xbox did imo. I remember dedicating a whole summer to finishing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Game wasn't a master piece but it felt like a good Gauntlet like game using the FF universe.
