@blockbot @Alice Ha, nice. It's a Tor exit in this case, but this is fun shit. I would hesitate to have an autodoxxer, but I think the reason it would make me somewhat nervous is probably the exact reason it'd keep pedos away.

nginx can log arbitrary HTTP headers, by the way. Maybe tack on the locale and X-Forwarded-For: $http_x_forwarded_for $http_accept_language. (Then watch how many pedophiles have language set to "de-DE".)

@p @Alice @blockbot I think there would be many problems with this. For one, this thing doesn't take context into account. What if someone recently heard about some celebrity having some CP scandal? So, they typed in "<insert celebrity name here> CP" into the fedi search bar just to see people talking about it, and now they have their IP address doxxed (assuming they are using their bare IP).

Also, it seems like most IP addresses don't give exact location anymore. I recently checked the location of my IP address and it showed a location of a nearby town, not the one I actually live in. I remember back in the day it would give that exact location of my house, but it was back when we had a different ISP. I assume that ISPs realized how dangerous it is to have exact locations tied to IP addresses, especially now that doxxing has become more prevalent.

@xianc78 @p @Alice @blockbot the issue is also bad actors will use fedi instances with search that isn't gimped to find everything that bad actors want (from CP to trying to find possible fedposts and stuff to get people fired over) because mastodong has deliberately broken search unlike *oma and misskey.

A lot of people turn off public searches for this reason.
@xianc78 @Alice @blockbot @p as for IPs it depends on the ISP. Mobile ISPs are notoriously unreliable due to sharing a giant pool, and Ellen Pao said that Reddit numbers were fake for this reason because even a cell tower switching meant that it would be counted as another user.

Landline ISPs are a different story, I've seen times where they give you a very accurate ZIP code reading.

> Mobile ISPs are notoriously unreliable due to sharing a giant pool,

Their geofeed URL is in their whois.

> even a cell tower switching meant that it would be counted as another user.

Ellen Pao is an idiot, she apparently never used a streaming application in her car. Cell phone companies have spent a lot of effort on keeping IP addresses constant.

ah sweet an RFC. it's been a hot moment since i read one of those

i see they no longer leave every other page intentionally blank

Plan 9 comes with a script to sync them into /lib/rfc. Very convenient.

I mean, I don't think it's a huge problem, is it? Everyone knows who I am, it's not hard to find me. I also don't think ISPs give a damn.

As far as the rest, like I said, this bot would make me nervous about false positives. The same reason I'd get nervous, though, it is effective.
