Using twitter is really deeply humiliating compared to fedi, because in order gain even a double digit following, you have to pay for premium and then replyguy every single post you see hoping for someone to have mercy on your pitiful soul. On fedi you're going to get engagement whether you like it or not.
Fedi still sucks imo. Too many spergs on here and they just keep coming like a faucet.
@nozaki Are you optimistic for the future of fedi or do you think it'll just sort of stay how it is now?
It depends. To be honest, when we first came here we were the spergs that everyone hated. Over time we mellowed out, but it seems like every generation that follows is worse than the one before. It's like a cycle of spergery that I'm not sure how to escape.

I think all online RW culture is stagnant, we need to cluster into small groups and scatter until something shows up to unite us again. In the meantime important interaction should be happening in scattered chats that no one knows exists.
@nozaki The other part is that being an exclusively rw space is part of the problem. There's not enough diversity in thought. At least people are beginning to realize this now and make fun of the podcastrace guys who do nothing but post "they hate you and want you dead" and "are you getting it yet???"
I get what you're saying, but fedi isn't just a RW space. It's one where everyone can choose who and what they interact with. We are in prisons of our own design. Someone can choose not to post anything political and never interact with people who post about politics.

Which is why I struggle with the spergery. Does it come from the company I keep? Have we just created a culture dunking for dopamine? What hand do I have in influencing this all for the better? I don't have good answers for any of these questions, which is why I find myself spending less time here. Every day the cozy year of 2021 seems to slip further and further into my memory.

As another point to what you're talking about regarding hiveminds, I think there are many times where things are challenged that day but later accept all of a sudden as fact. It takes time for new understanding to grow in these kinds of spaces. If you're right and everyone eventually accepts what you talked about, you receive no vindication or apologies. If they stay wrong, there's nothing you can do about it, but every time you go against the grain there's a chance that something shifts. Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes not. It's not the end of the world either way.

tbh i see that most of fedi users are twitter migrants, so some of that culture comes into fedi and stays there. I see overly so that the fedi political climate is an echo of that on twitter, albeit in its own way, but still very similar.

I personally think that fedi has kinda dug its own grave, as seeing with mastodon basically being an echo chamber for the twitter spergs, and darkfedi approaching that state but for the opposite political alignment.

also alot of the new momentum in the development side of things is putting a mastodon-adjacent gay retarded governing body behind the ""standards"" (if you can even call them anything beyond a suggestion) so I dont expect it to improve with time

eventually ill find that people will converge into their little echo chambers and fedi will become less and less appealing to others considering how exclusivist most of the circles are anyway

I made a post about it the other night, but Mastodon's competition going forward is going to be bsky and not Twitter/similar as much.

Not having quote tweets fucked them over hard because it was a battle of the 2017 post-CVille leftists who felt "if this feature can cause harassment, it shouldn't exist" vs the 2025 "Dude, where's my quotes" Twitter refugees.

@sendpaws @nozaki @animepfp
i guess, but a rarely see bksy out in the wild, in fact, I think only the hyper leftoids are going to use it and I dont think theres going to be much mass appeal

and tbh i think the internet has gotten to the point that its going to be very hard to get people to use other things than what has already been established, as weve seen by the multiple twitter "exoduses" theres always a rebound because most of the users arent giga autists that can tolerate the schizos

@theorytoe @nozaki @animepfp idk man SXM DJs I listen to are shouting out they have one along with Threads and X and the like.

If there's anything I've learned as a veteran of the bullshit it's that just because you don't see it happening doesn't mean it's not happening. Of course, bsky will never shed the image of "Twitter for Tankies" especially not with the trending shit you see daily. Yet every single furry has a bsky account for some reason.

Isn't it popular with Japanese artists?

japanese people still get to experience an entirely different twitter, as they always have. there's a lot less incentive for them to move
