I find it weird that the only Sonic game I own and have played extensively is the one that most Sonic fans have probably never even played.

@coolboymew It's probably the black sheep of the 2D games or maybe even the whole franchise in general because it plays like the old 2D games but uses Sonic's redesign. Not to mention that it was released on a handheld that was intended to be obscure (contrary to popular belief the NGPC wasn't meant to compete with the GBC or WS; it was supposed to be a "love letter" for SNK fans).

You're missing out. It's easily the best pre-GBA handheld, despite it's small library.
