I know that metalheads often negatively compare Black Album to the albums preceeding it but I'd go a step further and say that it's acutally the worst album by Metallica, at least in my eyes. Painfully overproduced and quite boring.
The only one that comes close to it is Reload (not that sure, I've only heard it once so far). Or maybe one of the last two albums, I haven't heard those yet.

@grips For me the greatest albums are the ones Cliff Burton participated. In And Justice for All the bass was turned down to bully Jason Newsted, black album was for me the reason to stop listening anything after that.
Decades later I still don't regret my decision, and I still mosh on Motorbreath if it's ever played.
