The new Beemers look like plastic toys. They are not offensively bad, but do not appear to be worth the money. 1980s German steel had more appeal, but even Mercedes is mostly plastic now.

Around here, it seems that White and whitish people have abandoned the Mercedes and BMWs, since they are popular with the hip-hop crowd.

Looking back over 1990s music, it seems like it took more risks.

1980s music had a different feel, more like it was the peak of a wave.

1990s music was after the wave crashed, looking for direction.

2k+ music feels like becalmed waters where you just toss in everything and hope for the best.

It's spreadsheet music. Whatever sold well for the past 60 years gets tossed in there.

Basically disco with hip-hop, AOR, alternative, gospel, and jazz fusion mixed in.

I'm sure someone will do it good again, or we all missed some underground artist that quit making music years ago

I think Jackson was absurdly talented and unfairly railroaded.

However, I'm revisiting the jazz station and Mingus is the shiz.

I have always enjoyed Coleman. He's like Django Reinhart or Anders Segovia but on the tenor sax.

Most of it is. I stopped listening to jazz because artistically I disagree with it: structure is more important than licks.

Listen to enough of it and you hear the repeat patterns which makes the randomness seem sad.

But there were some great exceptions.

I have been enjoying middle-period Mozart lately. Classical is a huge and daunting field. It can be embraced by anyone however, starting anywhere, because all roads lead to all other roads.

"When I Was Your Age" and "Stuck in a Closet with Vanna White" both legitimately shred as sort of borderline punk metal songs, and they are both decently funny as well but even without that they're good songs. "I'll Be Mellow When I'm Dead" not only a good original but a great anti-hippie song. "One More Minute" was my favorite as far as funny songs. "One of Those Days" very relatable but also a decent song just to listen to. "Hardware Store" became a meme for how catchy it is just in its own right, and shows how hard Weird Al works on these songs instead of just changing some words and being like okay there it's my song now.

Some of his style parodies are great like "Dare to be Stupid" and "I'll Sue Ya" aka the Rage Against the Machine song that's better than anything by Rage Against the Machine. "Dog Eat Dog" was a good Talking Heads style parody. There's that story of those punk rockers that came up to Weird Al and said "hey man we really love Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota." "White and Nerdy" and "Trapped in the Drive Thru" of course being better and more memorable than the original, but the gold standard for that might be "It's All About the Pentiums" which easily eclipsed the original in every way possible, even the video was better.

Going through the wiki just for the list of all of his songs and it says that "Albuquerque" is a style parody of The Rugburns and I can kind of see that since it did remind me a lot of "Dick's Automotive" and The Rugburns had a handful of decent songs too but no one even remembers they ever existed anymore sadly.

The idea behind jazz was that you took a standard, or a popular tune, and jammed on it. The improvisation is naturally prone to comment on itself and be idiosyncratic.

Maybe you'll realize like me one day that gospel is very powerful music, I speak only of the music itself not it's stereotypical message. The sounds, the vibrations, are very powerful in gospel music, in terms of their effect on the average human psyche.
