I love beautiful architecture but I don't know much about it technically, I don't know the definitions of terms used, like I have an idea about what victorian means, and brutalist, and deco, but if I was asked what makes these things what they are I would be very vague in my description

@Jazzy_Butts i still need to spend more time getting an understanding of architecture because when it's good it is the /most/ striking thing, but so often i struggle to find architectural design I truly think is good

i like Louis khan

@cracky I don't even know any names of designers but that stuff is beautiful to me too, reminds me of HR Giger, who I guess was also technically an architect since he designed structures in the form of sets. Is that architecture? It's a structure, people use it for something so it's utilitarian and not just and art piece, it's a piece used to make art, like a canvas, and the actors play on that canvas. Is it not real architecture because it gets torn down within a few months, what about when the set is just a miniature? Is scaffolding architecture? Or is it a tool, or both? If a paint brush is stood up on its bristles so it stayed there, upright, would that be architecture? What if a bunch of paint brushes were laid down flat and glued together into a "structure"? Is that architecture?

@Jazzy_Butts another weird "architecture" book i have that i can't immediately find online, "architecture and hygiene" by Adam kalkin

@cracky A modern cigarette held by a paperclip, the cigarette is already unspeakable, there will be no air flow, the paperclip does nothing but indicate that a very poor attempt has been made to repair the modern cigarette by someone who either doesn't understand how to repair it, or who doesn't care, the cigarette is surrounded by people, as if it were a monolith, the rest of the building is "normal" enough, but the central asymmetrical pillar grabs ones attention, it draws attention to itself, and that is intentional, as an art piece, it seems to have no intended utilitarian purpose, yet one could be invented for it I'm sure. Interesting, nice.

@cracky Also note cigarettes are inherently unhealthy things, even though they may provide momentary stimulation and distraction and performance enhancer
