Is it problematic that I hate crossdressers when I'm a tranny
@lethe It's not problematic, we're completely different demographics

I hate crossdressers and drag queens because I suffer from gender dysphoria and am disgusted by the idea of being confused with perverts who dress as caricatures of women for sexual excitement

@scathach@stereophonic.space @lethe@social.xenofem.me I can't say for crossdressers but I'm pretty sure most drag queens aren't doing it because of sexual reasons, it seems like a very genuine form of performance art for people

@nik @scathach @lethe "performance art", drag queens are just minstrel shows but laughing at trans people instead of black people

The whole "appeal" comes from "haha man is a dress". Then the costumed clowns have the audacity to go and run their events where they actively provoke backlash from the right wing before they take their costumes off

@Arcana @nik @lethe @scathach They're not parodying trans people they're parodying cis women, and it started because women were banned from theater.

@Jazzy_Butts @nik @lethe @scathach >"it started because women were banned from theater."

The "boyplayers" of the pre-ban lift by Charles II were not drag queens, far from it.

@Arcana @nik @lethe @scathach Why not? My reason for thinking they are is that they were men who wore womens clothing and behavior for entertainment of crowds.

@Jazzy_Butts @nik @lethe @scathach well for a few reasons. Drag is very exaggerated, over the top and a caricature. As we know from primary sources, this was very much not the case with the boyplayers excluding certain comedies in which every character was a complete over the top caricature (and this being continued on when cis women took on the roles for those plays)

Kynaston (written as Kinaston in Pepys' Diary) for example played in many serious roles and is described as such including passing extremely well. This was acting in a role which I don't consider to be drag at all. It's not a caricature, there's no mockery intended or desired.
