It doesn't bother me when I see posts of people rehabbing or rescuing wild animals or neglected animals, but there's something about (posting about) going to slaughter auctions to buy livestock to turn into a pet that strikes me as grotesquely performative

I guess if it's a positive action maybe its motives don't matter

Like if the cow or sheep could be made aware of the situation it would probably be grateful for being saved from slaughter

@Jazzy_Butts i kinda get what you mean. when you help a wiold animal or neglected animal it was a regular chillin animal/pet but a meat livestock was like raised and breed for meat. its literally genetically designed by humans to maximize meat and docilness. it was going to be a burger not matter what happened and buying it isnt going to stop burgers from being made. like idc really you can get your pet from wherever you want just like weird you picking the one that was food and not the one that was breed to be a pet or even better, a neglected pet, cuz those ones like are actually suffer, beef cattle and most other meat animals besides maybe chickens, have pretty good lives because being in a better mood actually improves the quality of the meat and even the production of milk.
