I have a question to Americans. Is it true that when a registered sex offender moves to a new neighborhood, they need to go door by door telling they are a sex offender, in a certain radius?
Or the neighbors are notified by other means? Legit question

@Kyou Idk but I've heard of people getting in trouble for "failing to register" which is hilarious to me because why would you make that their decision if it's something they have to do? Just do it yourself at that point, register them automatically.

@Jazzy_Butts have that ever happened to you personally or someone you know? Like, a notification about a rapist moving to your neighborhood

@Kyou Nope, never gotten anything, but there's a website that tells you where registered offenders live. But you have to consider that the registry is a joke, there's children on the registry for sending naked pictures OF THEMSELVES and getting caught. So now you have these innocent people on the registry, and everyone assumes if you're on the registry you're a monster. It's not fair and I can't support it until the law cuts the shit and stops victimizing innocent people and taking away their voice. Nobody listens to a sex offender, they are ostracized with good reason, and so it's very important only real victimizers are given such a grievous label.

@Kyou Yea it's not talked about in wider society, I only know because the topic of sexual freedom is tied up with victimless crimes, and bigotry. I can never be sure if when someone says "rapist" they're talking about a person who violated someone else, or a person who just violated a social taboo, the two are very different.
