@violet_rose @DeepestDevotee I don't know too much about Malcolm X. I know he was a member of the Nation of Islam, which is a hate group. He eventually became an orthodox Sunni and split with the NoI, presumably because the prophet Mohammed had decried racism in his last sermon and because the NoI has generally heterodox views. Around this time he also met with MLK Jr. and softened his stance towards violence. Not long after this he was assassinated by NoI members.

I think MLK Jr. was effective *because* he took the opposite approach to Malcolm X though. He was an excellent speaker, he reasoned with white society on legal grounds and appealed to the conscience of white Christians on spiritual grounds. He didn't view white people as his enemies as Malcolm X would have while he was with the NoI.
