i still don't understand why gnocchi floats once it's boiled :marseythinkorino:
it must mean it lost density, either by losing mass or gaining volume :marseyinsane1:
@paula probably absorbing water plus the bubbles pushing it up
the bubbles don't push anything up, at best they cause a disturbance to make them float up
once boiled they are just barely less dense than water so without a little push they just stay at the bottom
can you float on water by just absorbing water :marseythonk:
Follow

@paula @renai bubbles must be forming inside the nocci, steam maybe? little pockets of gas.

:marseythinkorino:
i find that unlikely, it's a thick dough submerged, where would the gas even come from
also i've had this question ever since i made gnocchi the other day
and that day i had two friends taking engineering with me and we couldn't really think of anything

@paula @renai The dough has moisture, it has water in it, or it would be a dust. The water is boiling, boiling water creates steam, steam is a gas, it brings the nocci up to temp and the liquid inside also is at boiling, it is also making a little steam, and so this is where gas would come from :blobgiggle:

i don't get it :marseyreading:
but i believe it :marseyclapping:
thanks friend
