futurama was a punishing show to watch. if you're trans or queer, or nonwhite, or transage, or not american, you may notice how horribly nasty and unlikeable the cast and most episode plots are.

now, an interesting team could build something good on the bones of the original team's worldbuilding. for instance; the newest generation of robots have no need for gender, express themselves in ways that don't rely on gender, and perform to any level required of them without those old artificially imposed constraints. the old robots lead people in backlash against these queerbots, only for everyone to quickly realize the only reason there ever were such stark divides between robot genders is because they were literally built that way, and without reinventing the hierarchy every generation it just doesn't exist and obviously just sucked salty nuts

@ViciouslyKind the entire show threw those issues in the audience's faces as a way to show us how utterly asinine it is to be mysoginistic, chauvinistic, biased, racist, sexist, etc, etc. In comedic form.
It's the same concept behind Invader Zim (and most of Jhonen Vasquez' works) portraying humans as fat, disgusting, ignorant, idiotic blobs of meat wholly dependant on consumerism and blind acceptance of whatever the media tells them is true.

@bitterblossom i took the joke of "Bend Her" to be that trans people are ridiculous, women's sports are under threat by aggro men getting dodgy sex reassignments in order to dominate in every field and blow away the hopelessly weaker "real women", and that they also aren't above tricking men into dating them for money, status, and thrills

@ViciouslyKind @bitterblossom I'm not saying you're wrong but my take from that episode is that Bender is a huge piece of shit willing to go to any lengths to get his way. I never saw it as an attack on trans people per say, just like how if bender pretended to be crippled to get his way while victimizing others the point wouldn't be that cripples are predatory.
