ive said it before but the way fedi users go apeshit about their posts being "downloaded" kinda blows me away

"NOOOOOO HE'S DOWNLOADING MY FUCKING POSTS!!!!! DEFEDEROOT! THAT'S A BREACH OF PRIVACY!!!"

every instance that finds your posts is downloading them. you're uploading them by posting them, and then others are downloading them. that's how it works. i don't understand this line of reasoning. if you don't want your posts downloaded why are you uploading them?
@grumpy tbf by default they're only downloaded for 90 days on pleroma, i assume its the same for mastadon. Not sure how it works with threads, but I think its reasonable to distrust meta with their data
@luwa all i'm saying is that if your posts being downloaded and saved somewhere upsets you maybe don't put them on a network that's designed so that anyone can attach whatever software they want to it, because that means you can't choose what happens to what you put on here.

@grumpy @luwa I assume everything I do online is being archived somewhere by someone nefarious to blackmail me should I ever "step out of line" and have accepted it
