One of my favorite movies is A Clockwork Orange but I haven't seen it very many times, or read the book. Alex as a character is the true hero of the story, despite his monstrous acts. He is what he is because of the society in which he dwells, the parents who ignore him, the teacher who molestsed him, the priest in prison who did the same, it goes on and on, but by the end he wins, he is victorious over the society that tried to destroy him, yet this victory is bittersweet, because even this victory is the result of the actions of the society in which he dwells, even this victory is not his own. All that he is, is a result of his society, he is a slave, although by the end he is a happy slave.
