@maija We don't know. Cars does not give a complete timeline of their world. Was their Jesus a car too? was it a man? how long have cars been around?
There's a clear difference between older and younger cars that seems to imply they've only been cars for a century or two at most, and couldn't have possibly built everything if that's the case.

@nerthos @maija I believe the cars naturally evolved over a very slow period of time, but also their houses were either built by other vehicle types that evolved to build those structures and we just never see them or humans have actually gone extinct in the cars universe. Or even better yet tie it in with Wall-E, humans are gone because they left earth, cars are sentient because...I mean with ai coming it's actually very realistic for humans to make sentient cars just because they could, eventually those cars either became corrupt or they began making replacement models without complete memory for some reason, so they aren't aware of humans.
