@a1batross I am a new user here and to a Pleroma node in general (have various very active mastodon accounts).

Am seriously impressed by the niceties I find here.

OMG, some I have been begging masto admins for (increase the damned 500 toot size), others I dream of (support for rich text formatting).

And -- the Settings controls are a techie dream.

Theme, I can select my own choice of Font? Really? yes, it's there, tested and amazing.

I write a blog on various things, one being my own experiences and discoveries on the Fediverse.

Will prepare a nice post on Pleroma, already collecting screenshots for it.

Don't know exactly how many of the features I am impressed with are main stream Pleroma, and which you might have added, but it is a wonderful platform.

And now i am testing it via Pinafore, my favourite client, and all works.

Got to tell my friends at various instances. Great work deserves recognition, thanks A1batross!
@Yann: pleroma frontend is heavy and does not work in old browsers (but other frontends does)
@mittorn @Yann yep. Pleroma frontend is pure javascript, nothing is rendered by backend.

Also you can try Mastodon FE: https://expired.mentality.rip/web
@a1batross @mittorn Wow, it as a Mastodon Web client too? amazing.

Tried it and can get a nice layout.

But it seems to be GlitchSoc based and I can't stretch it full screen with the Collapsed Mastodon FF add on, which makes a really lovely workspace.

shown on second screenshot, at another instace, snap shot taken few minutes ago.
@Yann @mittorn it's glitch soc FE forked and bundled with Pleroma, as it supports MastoAPI.
@a1batross @mittorn Ahhh!!! Thought so, recognized the nice fancy extra control panel, we have it at hackers.town and it's nice.

Really cool to see good ideas being accepted and spreading out!

I had been pretty disappointed by the response of some masto admins to my simple request for please, increase the max toot size...

Not a problem here, or in some other fine instances, glad to see that.

Twitter heavy user admins don't see the point, as all they have done is mostly those cryptic one liners they enjoy.
@Yann @mittorn because you can't just increase max toot size.

It's changed in mastodon source code and this type of hack breaks in clients, as they don't know the real toot limit.
@a1batross @mittorn I have seen a reference to a variable that needs to be changed -- to allow the clients to verify and get the current, correct limit from the instances.

Here's screenshot showing what is needed.

At my main instance, Qoto.org, we have 65 K too, but all clients other than the Masto Web one, can't get the value back; so they default to the super tight 500. Annoys me to no end, as I like __Space__ to write and can have it if using the less fancy Web client.

Pinafore, which I would love to use full time, at Qoto doesn't work for me; an active poster, and a verbal one.

until our admin can do the fix (apparently more than a config edit, but it's planned for implementation soon), we all get 500 chars in other clients there.
@Yann @mittorn that's the problem. I don't know if there is universal patch that implements max_toot_chars, so maybe it's harder than we imagine.
@a1batross @mittorn Yeah, pity. I had asked the admin at masto.pt, who is the admin of all the masto.host services and he mentioned it being a recurring edit needed every time there's a new mastodon release.

Gargron could possibly try and make it easier to keep or an easier fix if changing. Like, a readable config file, perhaps.

@Yann @a1batross @mittorn it could be a config option but Gargron decided against it.

(the person who opened that issue on Mastodon's issue tracker is the Pleroma dev, if that tells you anything)

So, he made mastodon intentionally bad, so there would be only few 'objectively better' servers by making it so only few hacked servers remain 'objectively better' anyway...

WHAT??? :coomer: :gun_emoji:

@LukeAlmighty @mewmew @a1batross @mittorn

Yeah, it's an older decision (November 2017) but here's what the image above, scanned via OCR has Gargron stating :

> "I have denied such patches in the past. If somebody wants to hack it in, they may do so, but I don't
want to encourage it. I feel like the UX is designed, visually and behaviourally, around a certain
number of characters, and deviations have a negative impact on it. For example, I want people to pick
their Mastodon based on, for example, the policies, or the theme, but I want the base level of
functionality to be the same so it doesn't go into the choice." -- Gargron, Nov 16, 2017.

* In response to a proposed change in the Max Toot Size by Pleroma head developer Lambadalambda, November 14, 2017.
@LukeAlmighty @a1batross @mewmew @mittorn Sorry for the bad formatting, but Pinafore still doesn't seem to handle the MarkDown formatting for the post as I intended.
@Yann @LukeAlmighty @mewmew @mittorn don't forget, most of these clients are developed only for Mastodon and don't want to support any Pleroma-extensions(except for max_toot_chars, lol).

I even forked one of Mastodon Android client to add support for markdown and unlimited attachments. :)
@a1batross @LukeAlmighty @mewmew @mittorn That sounds interesting. Which one is it?

Do you have a link to a release page? This deserves to be known. Thank you!

I will be asking @nolan about adding support for MarkDown inside Pinafore. It's my favourite client, and I have all my instances a couple clicks away using it.
@Yann @LukeAlmighty @mewmew @mittorn @nolan no releases yet, I've decided to release it after Tusky 10, as it's based on their develop branch.

Oh, yeah, I've called it Husky and source code is hosted at GitHub for now: https://github.com/FWGS/Husky. :)

There is build in releases pages, but it does NOT work ^^"
@a1batross @mewmew @LukeAlmighty @mittorn [taking Nolan off the attribute list not to annoy him] Found it, had a 404 at first, due to a period at end of link. TY..
