honestly I cant summarize it other than that it's RPGs made in japan. Most of which have a distinct narrative style such as Final Fantasy. Which contrasts to the "sandbox-style" RPG westerners prefer.
It's not a distinct definition by any means. Dark Souls is technically a JRPG, but you wont find many people calling it that.

@igeljaeger yeah... Dark souls is fun... the 1/30 times you actually don't die :D

What JRPG would you reccomend to an experienced gamer, that had missed them completelly?

@LukeAlmighty oh boy... do you want an action game or the classic turn based style? Or maybe turn based strategy?

turn based: bravely default (3ds, sequel will come out on switch)
turn based strategy: fire emblem three houses (switch)

@LukeAlmighty also xenoblade chronicles comes to mind. The original came out on Wii, but a remake is releasing on switch soon.

@LukeAlmighty you can try monster hunter on PSP, if your PC is too weak for monhun world

@LukeAlmighty also if you dont have a switch, fire emblem had its revival on 3ds. Just dont waste your time with the "Fates" games. Badly written.
