Ha. You're talking to a boomer that prefers keeping his money where he can touch it instead of giving it the bank for lending purposes.
But the analogy works right for most people.
- Blacks committing a vastly disproportionate amount of violent crime, bringing them disproportionately often into contact with America's thuggish, trigger-happy police force, with predictable consequences (except that given that their crime rate, you'd actually expect MORE innocent blacks to be shot by the police than is actually the case).
- Blacks as a group failing at life, topping most negative statistics (poverty, children out of wedlock, obesity etc), and being at the bottom of the desirable rankings. This despite extensive structural discrimination in their favor.
- A very strong Grievance/Victim Culture, blaming White people and Racism for the many, many bad things happening to the black community. The answer is always more Gibs, more Preferential treatment, more uplifting historical Revisionism, since black failure just HAS to be the fault of White people, and in a country of more than 300 million, there will always be enough anecdotes to support such a position.

This is perhaps BECAUSE of structural discrimination in their favor. Thomas Sowell thinks to think that.
Give a black person a boost so they can get into Harvard. But then they're competing with people way smarter than them and they fail. That kind of thing.

To be fair, white people ARE most at fault. Like men are most at fault. Because when one group is doing most of the doings, they're going to be most at fault.
I also recall Ta Nehisi Coates of all people, many years ago, hinting at that the collapse of the black family had something to do with the liberal welfare state.

It's not a trap though. It's a mirage. If you study and work hard you can get away from that cycle.
I did, live in the third world, have no formal education. I'm making my way forward just fine. If I hadn't had kids I'd be able to retire TODAY.

Psychological and physical traps work exactly the same. I see no difference, since you can escape both of them as long as you understand the trap.
You can't escape a locked cage just by working hard. You need tools for that. A file or some rope or something like that.

The mind prison is your entire reality. You cannot escape when the entire reality you live in is different then the real one.
I see we will not agree on this point, so here is just a slight motivation post about escaping prisons:
The problem is complex to diagnose but this is a part. Another part it is propaganda telling people they have rights they don't actually have, that there's oppression that's not actually there, etc.
