Wal-Mart's PS5 launch was sold out in 3 minutes. 100% script kiddies?

@djsumdog
Well, I am seriously wandering just how bad the scalpers are for the big data people. Try planning for manafacturing, when you don't know if 90, 50 or 10 percent of your orders were organic.

Still woudn't be a problem if people werent stupid, so I cannot blame the scalpers.

@LukeAlmighty People keep buying them .. just make the whole situation worse. They're still ~$1k on eBay. With the PS3, they went back to normal prices on eBay by mid-December, but 2020 has record demand for game systems, 10x of the PS4 launch
@djsumdog @LukeAlmighty In a lockdown, who will build the entertainment?
@djsumdog @LukeAlmighty Seems games are at a position to keep profiting here, remotely developed games seem plausible at worst. But I imagine R&D suffers and these companies don't have the resources to push through the restrictions as easily.. Not sure of any of this
@coyote @LukeAlmighty @djsumdog video game development doesn't depend on locality. indies have been doing distributed dev for a decade.

it does hurt the yuge studios like kojima since he can't simp his mocap girls in person but :comfyshrug:
@icedquinn @LukeAlmighty @djsumdog yeah I was saying like who will build the consoles? I wasn't so worried about gamedev
@coyote @LukeAlmighty @djsumdog don't pick and place machines do most of the work these days
@icedquinn @LukeAlmighty @djsumdog Well I'd imagine so :blobcatgoogly: Maybe it's just me, the PS4 was pretty unimpressive from a software standpoint, from what it could do, and the downsides outweighing the benefits (always-online for DVDs? Fuck you sony) and this entire generation is just extremely boring to me, same as last gen. No truly interesting games are console exclusives anymore. There's really no use for the touchpad on the PS4, it was always just a start/options/pause button. The vita was literally a more enticing console than the PS4 was to me, and Sony never gave a shit about Vita. Maybe what I'm seeing is just console gaming dying

@coyote @icedquinn @djsumdog
Ironically enough, I am still wandering, just how good would that gamepad be for PC...

Do you have any experience with the steam controller?

@LukeAlmighty @icedquinn @djsumdog The steam controller is GREAT for one thing: playing any game that doesn't support a "normal" xbox type xinput controller, but supports keyboard and mouse. With this, you can play like SIMCITY or Rollercoaster Tycoon on a tv with a bit of fiddling. Although, I hate using it with Steam vanilla, I use a python3 port of a python2 program called `sc-controller` and it works without having to use Steam as an intermediary launcher, which it is terrible at. Gyro controls for shooting are shitty, they are a cop out and shooters are BAD with this controller. Expect to be gimped heavily in online play. Expect to need a more "traditional" controller with two joysticks for most games.

tl;dr Has the ability to play games on a TV meant for a KB+M, but sucks for anything else really. Shooters especially. You'll probably want another controller lying around that supports Xinput or something.
@LukeAlmighty @icedquinn @djsumdog No problem, random internet person! :blobcatgoogly2:

I have had it since 2017 so it's seen some use, I don't have a TV/couch set up anymore though so it's been mostly KB+M for shooters, and an Xbox One S controller with a custom kernel called `xpadneo` for platformers and stuff.
@coyote @LukeAlmighty @djsumdog i wanted one of these for a while but never bothered to get one.
@icedquinn @LukeAlmighty @djsumdog The Steam controller or the Xbox controller? I can't really recommend the Steam controller outside of "there are games I wanna play on a couch that don't support xinput"
@coyote @LukeAlmighty @djsumdog probably good i was too lazy to get a steam controller then.
@icedquinn @coyote @LukeAlmighty @djsumdog meanwhile i looove my steam controller but i barely play games anymore so uh..
