Most people who care already probably know about this. I am posting it because I am concerned and disagree with Mozilla Firefox. Do they just want centralized platforms like Google, Facebook, etc? What exactly are they saying? What are some open source alternatives to Firefox?

@posrev Super click-baity headline but the actual stuff they’re calling for is unrelated:

Additional precise and specific actions must also be taken:

Reveal who is paying for advertisements, how much they are paying and who is being targeted.

Commit to meaningful transparency of platform algorithms so we know how and what content is being amplified, to whom, and the associated impact.

Turn on by default the tools to amplify factual voices over disinformation.

Work with independent researchers to facilitate in-depth studies of the platforms’ impact on people and our societies, and what we can do to improve things.

I support this stuff. Whoever decided that headline was drunk.

@posrev This is the only one I really disagree with:

Turn on by default the tools to amplify factual voices over disinformation.

@alex @posrev The bit about the impact on societies is pretty suspicious to me. What do they mean by "improve things" exactly? To me, it sounds like social engineering. I don't think it's a good idea.

@galena @posrev I feel like this article was written by a committee of libertarians and SJWs. It’s just confusing. I do think studying the psychology of netizens is worthwhile, but they made it sound ominous.

Libertarians and SJWs?

How the fuck would that work for anything? Is there even anything these 2 groups can agree on?
