Without the nation, though, road warriors rise up and eat them. They don't realize that because just when the main characters were going to have to slog trough the long, boring process of cleaning up the state they made a ruin of, uniting or peaceably separating the disparate groups the evil empire kept under their thumb, and building a new, better system, the credits rolled.
Say what you want about biblical narratives, they at least emphasized the importance of governance, laws, succession, and etc. Even if we didn't adhere to their specific dictates per se, it was a good start... it was the right set of things to emphasize. The current generation, boomers and younger, don't really understand anything but the glorious revolution, never the aftermath.
Whether that's because of the limitations of the film medium or a deliberate attempt (by people who are FAR less competent than they think they are) to engineer group psychology doesn't matter.
