I get is, some people like football in the real world, but I don't.

If I do not like football in real life, Why the fuck would I care about it in a fantasy world, where there is even lesser impact to my life?

@LukeAlmighty I like such competitive sports in fictitious works because I have a more idealistic view of it.

Here in the real world, there's so much politics going on in sports, even though in the past, it was supposed to be neutral and friendly. The teams are "diverse", so diverse that the entire french soccer team is black. There's drug use behind the scenes. Sponsorship deals with Qatar, which will even host the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Individual athletes get millions paid, while in the past, they even paid the travel costs on their own (Olympia games).

In fictitious works, it's usually truly competitive, about honor and truly representing your clan/tribe/country, etc.. Even I am not immune to herd mentality, I would like to cheer for someone in real life, but I do not see those people as my own and/or honorable.

That actually might be it.

There are 2 things I love about this country. Mosty god laws and the culture. That being said, there is nothing like "my people". I never felt any connection with them, because they we born near me...

So, I don't see nations measuring their power, I see individuals playing a game on higher level then is usual. And that is not worth holding my breath in 98 percent of cases. (MMA might be an exception, because people truly fighting is something feral...)
