what is a tankie?

@kathleenbee @LenAnon It’s a pejorative for a traditional communist, usually someone who supports whatever Lenin/Stalin/Mao (all of them or any one) were doing.

I don’t take it too seriously. It sounds like the type of thing you’d talk about at a bar. But some people online take it extremely seriously and ban people having different views about communism.

@kathleenbee Yes. Tankie, kind of like TERF, started out as somewhat of a derogatory term then was later embraced ironically. It began as a reference to the Hungarian uprising and usually refers to Stalinists or Maoists.

Most tankies today support socialist states such China, Cuba, Vietnam, and the DPRK while are also nostalgic for the USSR.

@LenAnon you guys are cool with the term TERF now? Man, I feel silly for trying to get people to call you radfems instead of TERFs.
