I know how hard the linux is for average user, It's too hard for me aswell.

But the worst parts of linux fit into 3 categories:
APP Stores
User elevation
Fyle system not having a standard disk:\folders structure.

And while most people do understand problems in 2nd and 3rd example, The app stores make linux look like a closed up toys. I know this is about perception, but I hope you get my point.

appstores

Why is this a bad thing it's such a good idea windows tried to copy it and failed

user evaluation

How hard is it to type your password or sudo

file system blah blah

It makes sense everything is a file just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad it's just that your not used to it I find it very nice compared to windows where if you run out of drive letters you can't add more drives

You are blind to the complexity of the problem.

The user elevation is not about typing sudo su, but about making sure every aplication has the rights aswell. And that is both core of Linux security as well as it's total unusability.

Same thing goes for the file system. It's not about the name, it's that when you see many different folders in root folder, it hides the true location of the files when taken to hardware level.

In windows, you choose a disk, on it are a few files from OS, but the rest is users playgroung. The opposite is true for linux user, since he has to learn, where to even find his drives...

@LukeAlmighty@gameliberty.club @massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz it just seems you came into Linux thinking it's like Windows don't expect it to be completely different because it is takes time to get used to it's not complex it's that your too used to windows once you get used to Linux it becomes easy

When you first got a computer it was probably hard to use because you didn't know how to use Windows same is true with Linux

@LukeAlmighty@gameliberty.club @massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz I can say that for my first computing experience got 1000 viruses and didn't know what the hell I was doing

@Nonetrix @LukeAlmighty @massiveracist dos/windows is literally the easiest thing, same with gnu on a old machine. it's modern stuff that's complicated as fuck and breaks.

kindergarten me can have fun on the computer for days, it's not hard at all.

@Nonetrix @massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz
You think I never heard this line?
How does it change anything?

Yes, I hate Microsoft, but whenever I even mention the 3 problems, all I get is Git Gud.

Well, if you do not see a problem with users having to learn what compiling a program even is, compile it, then having another session on how to give the program premmision to do it's job in the first days of use, then I guess you just love the challange.

It's not for me though. Not when I am just setting up the basics to do my job.

@LukeAlmighty@gameliberty.club @massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz it's as easy as going to the manjaro software app thingy then enabling the AUR then installing and often they have binaries

@Nonetrix @massiveracist @LukeAlmighty I like that the AUR discourages binaries but everyone does it anyway.
Because man imagine not having binaries of wine forks in the AUR.
@Nonetrix @massiveracist @LukeAlmighty I found linux much more comfortable to get used to than Windows. Even the disk thing works out easier, as soon as you understand the difference between connected and mounted.

@Zerglingman @Nonetrix @massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz Would you be so kind as to direct me to a DECENT guide of how to understand the entire file system mess?

Every video seems obsessed with telling me pointless details about each file, but none goes over the deep mechanisms, that seem tk be completely different.

As I say, most Linux users are either blind to complexity, or just enjoy laughing at plabs who don't get it.

@LukeAlmighty @massiveracist @Nonetrix Can confirm I am both.

I don't know of a good guide, offhand, but I can probably answer the question directly.
Some disk gets mounted at the top, /. Every other disk gets mounted somewhere inside it. Strongly recommend making /home be one of them, so that if you have to nuke the OS, your personal data is completely unaffected.
Also you can pretend things that are not disks are disks, and mount them too. Headaches ensue.

security

Stop using snaps and you won't have this issue most likely I've never had a issue with native package formats

Also stop using Ubuntu cringe

Theirs a reason many shit on Ubuntu it's a unstable mess but many claim its stable when in reality it's the most unstable for me

@LukeAlmighty @Nonetrix @massiveracist I think all of this is founded on a false premise that it is somehow good to cater to users unwilling or incapable of understanding fundamental aspects of a system. It's like changing a country's culture because it alienates "the global community" and all the immigrants which shouldn't be there in the first place. You change that culture and it'll go to shit. You pretend that culture is just silly tradition and it goes to shit. It's happened time and again.

@Tim @massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz @Nonetrix
This is a problem. you obviously can set elitism level as high as you want. If you want to make a club for 10 smartest people in the world, you can use the same argument to kick out the 11th.

That does not change any of my points. Linux is not just unintuitive. It is so damn overcomplicated, that even some IT enthusiasts cannot stand it. I wrote my 3 main points, and although the installation process is the easiest one to solve, the remaining two are just so far, I will rather stay under NSA OS, then do the shit-long research needed to work with this thing. And I want to work with it...

@Tim @massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz @Nonetrix
And yes, I know I'm just too dumb for Linux. That doesn't mean I cannot try/complain :AsukaSmug:

@LukeAlmighty @massiveracist @Nonetrix

It really ain't elite. Nowdays it's concerningly not elite, in fact. It's mostly just different. It's like calling christianity or anglo culture elite because its capable of sustaining a society instead of a mess. Not that the linux sphere doesn't have its own messes, though mostly for failing to uphold its principles (cough cough soystemd).

At the same time, I would wish away all computers in an instant if I could. They have in fact been a disaster for the human race.
