Sometimes, I wander, wether it would be possible with modern computers to modify some old games to just load the entire map at once and keep it simulated at the full scale. For instance, I know that in Skyrim, there are mods, that just integrate the cities into the map itself.

And most importantly... Would I notice? Would that be a detail that would change my experience of the game outside of the few obvious exceptions?
