Friendly reminder that The Sims 2 is now considered abandonware and is free to download and that you absolutely should.

Literally any PC made in the last 20 years can run it. Your phone can run it. There's no fucking excuse, play it already.
@comfy I remember a friend making a household with like 10 people for the sole purpose of killing them in all the different ways using Saw-style traps. We still could never see the one where the sim is eaten by flies.
@rasterman I used to do experiments on sims when I was younger too, I'd basically lock them in rooms that had a bed, a toilet, and like an easel or something and watch how it plays out. I used to have one sim that'd be able to serve the rest food if I felt like it. There was a lot of starvation because autonomy was awful.

I also did the opposite with a slave sim trapped in the kitchen who had to serve food and constantly paint in order to make money for the house to do stupid shit like operate a strip club in the living room, or open an H&M in the garage
@comfy LOL. Reminds me of... not sure if Sims 1 or 2; but I had a couple living together and the man would go to his high ranking 8-hour job while his wife stayed home making garden gnomes and earn twice as much. That shit was hilarious. Felt like it wasn't supposed to be like that. Maybe an old statement on being a wage cuck vs the superior garden gnome artisan.
@rasterman Starting a home business is easily outdoes any job in the game and it's funny as shit. You could sell sims anything, the toys you made, paintings, a fucking toilet and in like 12 seconds of being open you make more than a CEO. It's great.
@comfy The Sims 2 expansion to start your own business was the best thing ever. I should have suspected as much; but I was surprised when all features were rolled back in Sims 3 in order to sell them to you all over again. Fuck them EA Kikes.
@rasterman The worst part is TS3 and TS4 businesses don't even work right, TS3 needs very specific objects to function, and it's all tied to the objects and with the way the game is you'll never see anybody even if you do it in a hot spot. TS4 has arbitrary limits and home businesses don't work without mods or cheats.

How they could do it 20 years ago without thinking and then never be able to do it again is fucking crazy to me
@comfy I never played 4, but played a bit of 3. I think they had removed the neighbourhood feature where your other Sims were a part of a dynamic world and you instead lived in a Matrix of your own. At least that's what I remember of it. I was really disillusioned about them selling all expansions all over again. Didn't play it much. Did Sims 2 have the life goals feature already? If the graphics were better, there might be not a lot of reasons to want to play the newer ones. Though I hear Sims 4 let's you make gender-neutral Sims... ( ͡ಠ͜ ʖ ͡ಠ)

@rasterman @comfy
I am still amazed just how kiked out the EA is about the sims. Sims 2 was a gem, and sims 3 tried to do something better, but to see them being unable to simply optimalize the game and release it in some reasonable price range is just unbelievable to me.

Sims 2 and 3 were held back by the 32 bit architexture, and they were too big for computers of the era, but now, after so many years, EA is releasing a microgame instead... :ablobheadshake:

@LukeAlmighty @rasterman Literally all EA would have to do to "win" would be just release all of TS2 in TS4's engine. Just literally do the same game, port the code, fix it up a little, there you go.
TS3 I don't think can be saved, it worked when it came out but then they put a bunch of shit on top of it and now it just collapses on itself and the only way to resave it is to recode from scratch because even if you optimize the shit out of it and run it on a nasa super computer it's still gonna stutter and have simulation lag up the ass.

@comfy @rasterman
I have a simple rule. I either buy the full game, or I don't buy it at all.

I don't mind buying a game, but bloody hell man...

No reason to ever pay for a game, when devs don't respect you enough to actually let you play it.

@LukeAlmighty @SuperDicq @comfy Mortal Kombat 11 apparently costs $9,000 if you buy all the gacha shit. I think Ed Boon debunked it and proved it's actually more. And then there was that Train Simulator game that also seems to cost an insane amount of money with DLC. Why do they do this? :pepedisappoint:
