ah turns out GPD Win 3 sucks with Linux too

Why, GPD? Why? :blobfoxsad:
@LukeAlmighty you can probably ask @quad about his experience. I'm talking from what I did read on forums :comfygeek:
@newt @LukeAlmighty The GPD Win 3 works rather well with Linux. If you need resources I have a git repo for it: https://gitea.quad.moe/quad/win3-resources

The main issue is that Intel Xe drivers are immature and buggy, but that's a problem on both Linux and Windows.

My recent rants are about Linux and eGPUs not working well together, I don't think that issue is specific to my GPD Win 3
@newt @LukeAlmighty Basically install something with a recent kernel and an updated mesa package for the least buggy Intel Xe drivers possible, and it works very well. I've only been running Linux on mine since I got it in May.
@quad @LukeAlmighty the problem about Linux and eGPU is Linux still doesn't have PCIe hotplug supported. There's a series of patches in LKML, but nobody knows how to test them thoroughly and it's too scary to just merge them on faith :comfyxd:
@newt @LukeAlmighty Nah that works perfectly fine. Gnome on Wayland even handles it pretty well with GPUs most of the time.

The issue I was having is that my eGPU won't run at its full speed.

Although there's still plenty of issues. Like how Xorg is mostly guaranteed to crash if you unplug a GPU
@quad @LukeAlmighty fortunately, this isn't my case. If I ever buy this thing, it will be for handheld gaming on the go :comfygamer:

@newt @quad
I was wandering about a GPD, but the mere fact it's from china scared me away.

I am buying a pinephone next week to finally get my hands onto some alt-tech.

@LukeAlmighty @quad I have a GPD Pocket from 4 years ago. It's all fine except the battery is dead somehow. Too lazy to repair it.

Also, those weird quirks like vertical display apply.
@LukeAlmighty @newt Unfortunately all specialized devices are from china these days.

One of the reason I bought the GPD Win 3 was because the company is more reputable than the Aya Neo.

Although had I know the OneXPlayer existed at the time, I probably would've gone for that one instead. The Win 3 is a bit small for my taste and the OneXPlayer doesn't have the same issues as the Aya Neo
@newt @quad @LukeAlmighty it would be nice if my HDMI worked on Linux I git an AMD to avoid issues like this but here they are :blobcatnotlikethis:
@icedquinn @newt @LukeAlmighty HDMI with AMD usually works fine though. But HDMI audio is often a different thing, rather annoyingly
@icedquinn @LukeAlmighty @newt Under Windows too? If it does absolutely nothing that seems more like it might be a hardware problem
@icedquinn @LukeAlmighty @newt Yeah okay in that case it is pretty weird. What GPU do you have? And are you using Wayland or X11?
