This "Empathy is a superpower" is something that requires deeper thought
@sickburnbro it honestly kinda is.

When Christ talks about turning the other cheek, this is similar.

I've solved many social altercations by swallowing my pride and trying to humble myself. It Often results in reconciliation and a friendship, sometimes a very strong friendship.

This in my opinion is a technology best reserved for use with those of us who should be our allies.
@JSDorn For sure. The smart phrasing of 'turn the other cheek' is "be slow to anger"

If you can actually think about why people might be doing what they are doing, that's being empathic.

But most of these dumb women can't and just go and parrot lines of "empathy" around - and these are the kinds of people who that phrase was designed for.
@sickburnbro @JSDorn Empathy is on many layers: compassionate, emotional, and cognitive. She fails to reach any layer, as she is doing a low level fruit take just to say "incel bad, incel terrorist".
@Badmann @JSDorn Yeah. Mostly I'm reacting here to this whole "empathy will solve everything" which has been bubbling up.

@sickburnbro @Badmann @JSDorn
Empathy would solve a lot, but the question is, what to do, when one side lacks it completelly, yet believe otherwise?

@LukeAlmighty @Badmann @JSDorn Empath can't solve a lot though because in order to have empathy, you have to expend effort, and so "having empathy for everyone" is on the face, a lie.
@sickburnbro @LukeAlmighty @Badmann @JSDorn No, it isn't a lie. It's the end result of a process that continually repeats, over and over at every level over the generations. It's something we can perceive is possible, even if it's difficult to the level of impossible to achieve in practice.

There's a difference between a lie and a falsity, a desire and the situation on the ground. Because we can bend reality closer to our desire through our actions.

I mean, I don't have empathy for everyone. but people, including christians, muslims and others who really do try to expand the circles of their empathy have my respect for their efforts.

Maybe it'll never work. Maybe empathy will always be weaponized, and reasoning with those who have zero empathy for you won't work, and you'll be taken advantage of before it gets to the global scale. But like human rights and democracy, some things are worth striving for even if they'll never be truly universal.

Be careful when spreading your empathy. I get it, that you think it is beneficial, and I also used to believe so, but the boarders have to be made if you want your society to survive.

Obviously, almost any western nation has a common herritage by now, and many nations are compatible despise not having it. Russians are the most chill people I've ever known, and vietnamese are hard workers.

But when it comes to Muslim people, they see murdering you as a virtuous act. Most westerners seem to not understand the concept, but it will cost us way too many lives to re-learn this lesson.
