@furgar remember that Christian Bale movie Equilibrium? The population was essentially forced to take a mind-altering drug daily to suppress their emotions. It was depicted as a terrifying and evil dystopian nightmare future.
This is somehow worse than that, in that if you don’t take pills to make you emotionally numb you probably won’t die. If you don’t take your immuno booster pills daily you run the risk of actual death since the drugs have permanently fucked your immune system
Zanzibart, forgive me...
@Jackuu @furgar there was a dumb movie with Christopher Lambert with exactly that plot. In the future, there was a pandemic after which the survivors are forced to take some medicine daily. But it turns out that newborn children don’t need it if they’ve never taken it and the medicine is actually an addictive drug, while the virus is long gone on its own.
Can’t remember the name of the movie tho.

@LukeAlmighty @Jackuu @furgar @newt i think it was zero hp that said in a thread that dystopian fiction immunizes you from seeing the same patters in reality. everyone read 1984. and calling something 1984 became a punch line to describing a paranoid caricature.
🔻🪂
@grey @LukeAlmighty @Jackuu @furgar @newt same reason why we dunk on Libtards for linking everything to Harry Potter or Handmaid's Tale. It's low status bc this kind of fiction is for kids/teens
@MechaSilvio @grey @Jackuu @LukeAlmighty @furgar @newt you shouldn't compare the work of orwell to rowling or whatever is responsible for your latter reference.
@Alilathseker @Jackuu @LukeAlmighty @furgar @grey @newt even if the writing is better, 70 years of Conservatives doing "it's just like 1984" puts it in the same category
"NOOOOOOOOO IT'S JUST LIKE 1984INOOOOOOOOOOO"
"NOOOOOOOOO IT'S JUST LIKE 1984INOOOOOOOOOOO"
@MechaSilvio @Alilathseker @Jackuu @LukeAlmighty @furgar @grey @newt letting commoners read was a mistake
@LukeAlmighty @newt @furgar isn’t really the newest concept in fiction, they did it in Jurassic Park with lysine, and on deep space nine with the jem hadar
