From my experience, being off is a truly rare thing.
Nah... We are still fully on. Just not on the thing other desire us to be.
@kaia
That is also the reason why ADD causes insomnia so often. If you cannot turn your brain down even a little, and are always thinking, even if you have nothing to think about, how are you suoposed to relax and fall asleep?
@kaia
I don't know. I never had a problem with my job as long as I understood its intrinsic value. I used to sell stuff at parades. It was not a good job, but I knew it made people's day brighter.
I used to sell books in a huge shop. Whenever I helped a customer to find a book, I know I was saving them 10 minutes of suffering, and I might have even found that one perfect gift.
And now, I am testing software. Every bug I find is a headacke many people will never have.
In addition, according to the theory, jobs for ADHD are supposed to be either highly repetitive or high engagement. And you wouldn't guess it 😉, but 90 percent of software testing is highly repetetive, until you find a bug, but it also becomes extremely engaging the moment you have to diagnose it properly. Also,the so called "autistic" attencion to detail is a job requirement, so I cannot think of a better job.

It's the little things:
Working in retail is great, because customers LOVE to char and endorse a good job. So, the dopamine hits are always there.
And in testing... oh boy. Do I love the way every day can hit me with a completelly new and unexpected riddle. ![]()
@kaia
So, what problems did you expect autistic people to have at their jobs?
@kaia
Since you are studying psychology, can I ask 2 questiins?
1) why does it seem that psychology is more conserned with character traita then ilnesses?
When I look at things like adhd, psychopathy, bipolar etc, all I can see are character traits that happen to be outside of expected range.
2) how do you determine, that these character traits are actually bad for the people?
I do not know any runner who won a medail with broken leg, as well as I don't know any chess player who is better of with a huge feaver. But when I look at ADHD, I see NO detrimental effect on my education or job. On the contrary, I think it makes me better at my job.
