Creating a Byte unit was the biggest mistake in hystory of IT.
Change my mind.
@Xalef
The basic unit of information is bit.
It can be multiplied by the same orders of magnitude. No problem, it is simple and universal.
Then someone got the idea of Byte. the unit of 8 bits is now arbitraty. Many mechanisms do work on 16, 32, 64 or oven number of bits that isn't a power of 2. The 8 bit standard is far from universal. It does describe the exactly same element, in a multiplication, but most importantly...
IT HAS ALMOST THE SAME NAME. TRY TO EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN bit and Byte WILL DRIVE THEM INSANE.
The only unit this fucked up is calory, that means literal 1000th of itself depending on what was author thinking at the moment.
@Xalef
Either way, there should never be 2 words, describing the same entity in different ammount that also happen to sound the same.
HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT TO MAKE A NEW NAME, OR JUST STICK TO THE BASIC UNIT?
@Xalef
I am not shouting it you, it just drives me insane
