I like renewables, but nuclear power is still the most viable option to tackle the emission energy sources

For the reactor to produce thermal output 1W, 30 billion fissions of uranium-235 must take place every second. For a coal power station to produce the same output 1,500,000,000 billion carbon atoms must be burned.
What the fuck???

Temelín powerplant:
Fuel load UO2: 92t (The reactor splits about 3 kg of uranium every day )
Steam delivered per one generator: 1470 t/hour

Thermal output 2*3120 MW

Annual net output 15,662 GWh

And people wanted to replace this with wind mills?

@LukeAlmighty tbh, the problem with nuclear is that that this is still an expensive technology and a kWh has a constant pricing, in the summer the energy from wind mills and solar panels is just much cheaper, which means that energy sold by the nuclear plants is sold below market prices, the nuclear plants therefore charge more in the winter. Depending on the prices, the hike might be significant, at least for now

It is not dooming, as at least part of the reason is probably that the R&D of nuclear energy was damages after Chornobyl, but still it has to be taken into consideration

Ok, I didn't know solar was cheaper over summer. Although, it does maake sense.

But the strong push agains nuclear energy is stunning. Especially considering just how powerful it is, and that it can work all year long.

@LukeAlmighty tbh, renewables are pretty cheap overall, if we could have much more of them and good storage techniques the nuclear wouldn't be that much needed

Most of EU believes so, and are pushing hard for it.

Hope you're right... I would hate to see a global energy shortage.
