The only smartphone I've ever owned is through my job, I specifically buy much more basic and cheap phones, because I only use those fuckers for calling and setting my alarm.

@LukeAlmighty I have some normalfag relatives and the way some of them justify it is that "they need it for work", but then they'll admit that they need a proper desktop PC with a keyboard and mouse to do any non-trivial work. What I really get from it is that it's just status. More expensiver equals more betterer because you can show off and people see that you have enough resources to waste on objectively unnecessary shit. Companies packing in more transistors and computer power than 95% of people would ever need (were their software made by competent hands) is just to justify the pricetag.
