@LukeAlmighty That's the power of marketing. Even the hype from the normalfags before it came out was weird considering nobody ever really cared about the Drakengard series. I need to get back to it when I get my PC set-up again. I enjoyed what I'd played so far, but I think it was more the setting and music that kept me engaged over the combat. Of the platinum games I've played, I'd recommend Transformers Devastation over Nier if you want more engaging combat.
