It's literally a multilevel marketing kind of scheme to get people onto the platform and it's actually a common model with a lot of Camwhore sites as well. So they effectively lie and say "you could make so much money showing your butthole online that you could be rich and own a house by 22", and then when it doesn't pan out they say, "well you could make more money if you were to get a bunch of your friends involved". Sometimes you can find evidence that they quietly realize they got bamboozled, on reddit you will find them complaining about making no money despite being told it was a great idea to join and guaranteed to pay the bills.
