I've reached a breaking point the moment, microsoft broke the hybernation feature.

I can no longer put my PC to sleep, without it scaring me to death whenever it decides to just turn on by itself.

IT IS FEATURE THEY SAY FFS!!!

10. Change Registry Settings

11. Disable waking your machine up for automatic maintenance

(And none of these include hackers using magic packet)

I'll consider it after I see how good linux gaming is...

(And after I finish the shitty uni)

@LukeAlmighty @abloo It's generally been pretty good for me but there's definitely the odd game with weird performance issues. It keeps getting better though.

Anything that requires kernel level anti cheat won't run but then I consider that a feature as opposed to a bug.

If this is a desktop, a simple fix is to flip the power switch on the back after putting it to sleep. :blobcatthinksmart:
@LukeAlmighty @abloo It always bugged me on Windows. If a game installer asked for admin I had no easy way to know what it was doing to my system. Now everything is sandboxed so I don't need to worry about it.

Now this is some serious decent advice. Thank you.

@LukeAlmighty
Very recently, someone lamented to us how much is done in software today rather than hardware. We tried to familiarise them with a few things they could try but they then said they "trust Microsoft".

They are starting to have issues with cognition, but even so, it fills us with dread when we hear people say things like this.

that has been a feature for a long time. My suggestion is to invert the "working hours" so it doesn't do updates at night.

@kekservative @abloo
Yes, I know it is an old feature, and it is feature, that broke me.

It is microsoft just smashing into your house in the middle of the night to say: You think that PC is yours???

@LukeAlmighty @abloo That's been a thing since well before 2019. I thought I was going crazy, because as far as I was concerned, Windows didn't *support* waking up in the middle of the night from hibernation, doing stuff, then re-hibernating (which is what it usually did; only occasionally did it delete my session).

It happening late at night meant that the only times I witnessed it were when I woke up specifically to investigate it, and it's hard to tell that apart from a dream.
