I cannot say I agree there.
A lot of people who become jaded by society do tend to end up getting a small farm/garden house, where they try to live as self relient as possible.

Sure, they don't go full Ahmish, but I do see the trend begining to grow.

@tfmonkey @LukeAlmighty @railgun Speaking as some one with friends on that side of the spectrum, the general view is that there is no need to go that far nor is it likely such a move would even be possible. Luddism isn't the answer. The problem itself, again viewed by what you call the "trad-right", is the lack of meaning in the modern world. It doesnt matter if you live traditionally or maintain an "aesthetic lifestyle" if you don't know the why, the relation to what or the purpose of your lifestyle. In turn I've been seeing a lot of movement toward religion and a rediscovery of religious faith.

There is a general zeitgeist across the right rumbling toward what I can only describe as a new Great Awakening. Ive noticed a sigificant uptic in such content across social media, twitter and even across chans. Not just toward a specific faith but faith in general. Orthodoxy, Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, there is even some weird neo-paganism floating around. Yet they're all moving toward organized faith. I know several people, even a few of my personal friends, who are undergoing conversion or walking in that direction. The Zeitgeist is not fully here yet but you can feel the soil churning beneath your feet. When it does finally breach the surface, it could very easily make the 2016 MAGA Zeitgeist look like a dandelion by comparison.

@Elirairah @LukeAlmighty @railgun I think you're right. As "Progress" has turned out to be a false God, and nowhere else to go, people seem to be looking back at "the old ways" if only out of nostalgia.

It's a bit like a child who rebels against their parents, and then, being unable to handle adulthood, wishes to return to the innocence of their youth when things were simpler and they had less responsibility.

It's a pity they couldn't handle adulthood.

No, I don't thinks so. Sure there is some LARP to be had and it's pretty easy to find it. However there is a serious discussion going on. Otherwise there would be no reason to make memes calling out the LARPers. (pics related)
Just look at the reaction to Jordan Peterson's Biblical Series, Bishop Barron, and the Lectures of Jonathan Pageau. These are all people in search of meaning. Real meaning and not the kind of meaning that causes you to specifically buy roses and chocolate for your girlfriend on Valentines day. The really deep meaning that underpins all of existence, that doesn't justify but judges every and all actions across space-time and possibly even deeper. Even Bronze Age Pervert and his brand of ego-aesthetic driven nihilists are discussing whether or not they may need to join in dancing around the fire. You can even argue that they are all saying the same thing and battling the different heads of the same problem.
Hopping over to RCP under the "Policy" tab we find "The Case for Communitarianism" as the second pinned article for the "Reclaiming America Project", On the RCP Religion tab we can find a whole slew of articles.

Other such writings abound in the right-o-sphere.

These are only two that I have picked out of an exhaustive list. IM1776 has even more. Not to mention all the weird discussions on esoteric metaphysics going on in the BAP-o-sphere. I've even found MSPaint drawing explaining Gnostic cosmology on 4chan. People are legitimately preaching Gnosticism on 4chan!
There are even published books dealing with this new movement.
"Return of the Strong Gods" by Rusty Reno.
"The Road to Somewhere" by David GoodHart.
"Darwin's Doubt", featured on NYT's bestseller list, and "The Return of the God Hypothesis" both by Stephen C Meyer.

This is a serious discussion that is happening right now and these people are not LARPing about it. Nor are they doing it out of simple nostalgia. I believe one thing you said touches close. The bit about wishing for less responsibility and being unable to handle adulthood. I think these people realize they need the foundation and strength that God provides for there to be a future and to be able to battle whatever is coming.

@Elirairah @LukeAlmighty @railgun I think we're in heated agreement. I just don't think deep meaning, dissolving ego, and overcoming nihilism is something we can solve by going back to organized religion.

I'm not talking about replacing God with the State either. Real meaning, real overcoming, and overcoming nihilism has to come from within.

I'm not against religion. It certainly gets the job done, but it's a one-size-fits-all system that doesn't work for most people for a reason.

I love this phrase enough I'm stealing it.
Perhaps I should not have said 'organized religion' when I perhaps I more clearly meant belief in God or the Divine.
All I can say is that what ever comes up is going to be weird or have some weird metaphysics or cosmology. Pic related.
