Take it this way. European countries are paying US (nato) for the exclusive right to climb up the US ass.
So, the exact ammount of money isn't that important after that.
But.... Most european countries fucked up forgetting, that US army isn't the same thing as a national one. So, the moment US says: "We won't interfere", as they did with Ukraine, Putin knows its free real estate.
