I wish Poast had some provision to apply a "sort order" to people you follow, like weighting some guys higher than others so news floats to the top of the timeline, and titties slot in below that.

Also: Titties

@WashedOutGundamPilot there’s absolutely no way that kind of weighted algorithm would not eventually be used to stifle new or lower follower accounts

Treat it like 4chan, everything is equally weighted and in chronological order.

@Jackuu If WE set it then it's as bad as we want it to be, I'm just too lazy to always add people to lists

@WashedOutGundamPilot it’s just an unnecessary technology, and in the wrong hands on a future hypothetical locked down instance that’s essentially the only means of using this platform it could be used to filter people much like Twitter does

Just because you can build something for convenience doesn’t mean you should

It's tragic, but true.
In IT, you can never know, just how wide reaching will be effects of even the smallest of changes in interaction between people. Feedback loops are inevitable and uncontrollable.

BTW, if you REALY care about someone, just bookmark their profile.

@LukeAlmighty @WashedOutGundamPilot I don’t even want to know how much of our lives are controlled directly, indirectly and invisibly by the use of indiscriminate closed source algorithms

@Jackuu @LukeAlmighty oh come on, you're crazy, there's no way the vast majority of things you find sexually attractive are the result of indiscriminate psychological carpet bombing.

WOW! LOOK AT HOW RIPPED THAT GIRLS ABS ARE

@WashedOutGundamPilot @LukeAlmighty this goes far beyond just porn, all of your likes preferences and dislikes are included in this, how you work where you work, how you drive and where you drive, who you speak to and what you see when you go online, and that’s just personal information on you in particular

Algorithms control trading markets and logistical supply chains, they control media exposure and cultural trends

People blindly trust Google’s algorithm to provide them with information, they don’t even think twice about it. Just Google it.

We have essentially abrogated ability to critically think for ourselves and make our own determinations to machines whose function we cannot comprehend, much less have any control over. People talk about an AI apocalypse or robot takeover as being something in the future, but I fear it’s far more insidious and has already happened. If the machines go down now a lot of people are going to be left in the lurch with disastrous consequences for the human race
