But I was hesitant for years about leaving Windows, and Valve had finally broken the first of major Linux retardations.

The only new thing valve has done is improved proton (WINE+DVXK+VSYNC) and maybe updated their terrible proprietary 32bit steam program (not too much of course) and have probably contributed nothing to the kernel, Linux.
I'm not all that impressed that you can run more proprietary malware on an OS, when the whole point of the GNU/Linux OS was for users to have freedom.

Explaining intuitive design to linux users is like explaining the divorce rape to a feminist.
Even if I managed to name all of the issues, you would just end up saying "but that's a good thing".
I really would prefer GNU Hurd as my kernel anyway.
As a kernel doesn't actually have any sort of visual interface, I don't see how one would apply a "intuitive design" to it.
If you're complaining about the /sys and /proc interfaces, fair enough, but I haven't had too much using them.
Most complaints I've come across don't seem to actually have much to do with Linux, rather how the DE/package manager/other software acts.
Normies seem to absolutely thirst for proprietary software, but over here on GNU/Linux-libre we only have freedom - and that's a good thing.

The problem is, that normies cannot even care about freedom to pragram their own OS, when they need a relative to make sure their keyboard is connected.
Even if you have a IQ of 50, you are still capable of learning, as long as you are willing to learn.
I've encountered a lot of people who obviously had good intelligence, but refuse to learn.

Pretty much any so called "Linux distro" is actually a GNU/Linux OS (which you may want to shorten to just GNU), although some use BusyBox instead, which makes it BusyBox/Linux instead

For something easy to install, I would recommend the cleaned up version of Ubuntu: https://trisquel.info/
Installing it is as simple as burning the livedvd to a DVD, or copying the livedvd to a flash drive (this clicky clicky GUI software will do it for you: https://unetbootin.github.io/), booting off such storage medium and clicking through the install instructions.
