@LukeAlmighty yeah, but if you're too inefficient you'll just get overwhelmed and ragequit

@LukeAlmighty
This is why autism sims like factorio and satisfactory are not fun.

@LukeAlmighty this applies a bit to WoW aswell but when runescape first launched no one had any idea what they were doing. it was essentially a glorified lobster fishing chatbox with a fantasy world attached to it. and it was great.

but stuff like the grand exchange (auction house), wikis, youtube, competing for bonds(membership bought with ingame currency), social people going elsewhere (eg discord, shiny new games), and just a change in gamer culture circa League all helped remove social aspects and exploration and turn it into a tryhard sweatfest. (and in most ways a better game). but now you could get anything if you had enough gp (which you can also purchase with real money btw lol) which means efficiency efficiency efficiency.

i think thats also why so many people love playing ironman today, just chilling exploring the world and making huge small gains. its why region locks and tile lock challenges are the most popular rs vids too.
i also think theres something to be said about people just playing games out of dopamine clicky clicky addiction when they're very clearly not having fun
@smugumin @LukeAlmighty Yeah I believe when the developer created skills he never expected people to reach 99, which is why most of them capped out at functionality at like 70. That didn't stop people from spending massive amounts of time trying to grind it though, which is why they added skill capes as a reward.

I wasted way too much time mining to earn meager gp, but it did teach me a lot of economic concepts as well as to watch out for scammers.
