I don't think our brains can comprehend media. There's a lot of internal mental mechanisms we know little about that could be affected negatively.

How many people will tell you media doesn't affect them negatively and then turn around and act like everything the see accurately represents reality? Does this affect their behaviors? Breeding patterns? Racial consciousness? What else?
Porn is the big offender. People lie to their brain while giving it the highest level of dopamine reward. Are you surpirsed they we've become a society of skitzos? People can barely differentiate between reality and fiction.

Can humans even recover from this without societal collapse? (Hard times)
In a way, we're a product of this skizo society. Is your story something like:

"Everyone told me this obvious lie was truth. They told me I was crazy, but I know I'm right. I wondered what else was false and eventually became a Nazi"?

We're the last of the sane. But none of us come out of it unscathed.
