Yeah, it's a fault of TV, not the fact, that the kindergarten/school starts at 7.

@LukeAlmighty @WashedOutGundamPilot I think we're better off with younger kids going to school early and older kids going late.
My oldest hasn't been getting up before noon all summer, whereas the youngest is almost always up at 7:00 sharp! 😂

@Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty Let your oldest sleep well, their rhythms are inconvenient at that age but as long as they’re going to bed at a reasonable hour I’d let mine sleep as much as his body needs, provided he isn’t screwing with his waking hours gaming/chatting/etc.

I’ve noticed a lot of friends who are undersized, where they had tall parents and really big features like they’re supposed to be 6’X”, when I ask if they ever slept in HS they say “ah nah man I was always staying up all night playing halo ahahha”

Not sure if the fun is worth giving up such a valuable physical trait

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty It was torture waking up early 6-7 days a week I my teens. Sure I was probably staying up too late sometimes but I still say it was unhealthy.

@Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty It really comes into focus when you see the Xbox 360 generation against their older brothers. When you see them all lined up side to side you wonder why the hell so many people born 5 years apart almost always have a height disparity.

When you’re a teen, your body has to use those growth plates in your long bones to break down the bone and re-build it over and over, like building a bridge extension while keeping traffic over it. The problem is that it’s very sensitive to activity, so it only starts work in the wee hours of the night when it’s sure you’re in a deep sleep. Way too many guys stay in a high energy state gaming, then pretend to go to bed at midnight just to spend the next 3 hours talking to girls and masturbating. A last-minute 2 hour nap isn’t enough for the body to start construction.

End result? You have guys who are 5’8, barely taller than their mother, while their older siblings are 6’4. But they all wear the same shoe size. I’m just trying to get the news out because there’s a very shitty, boomerite take that sleep is by its very nature lazy, and that’s not the case. Telling your kid “up and at ‘em lazy ass” when it’s not time sensitive and he’s able to do his work otherwise is just stealing his future happiness to make yourself feel better in the moment. The dating market is cruel, every half inch of height you take from him is one less grandchild to brag about to the rest of your friends at lunch in 12 years

I have realized recently, just how much does it drive mothers mad, when the teen boys eat protein. A woman in a shop spilled, that her crazy son is willing to eat a sausage with milk.

Well? So what's the problem? I used to have a horrible sleep, but at LEAST my parents understood, that there is nothing strange about that I ate sausages, milk and mayo every other day. (And I am much taller then both of my parents.)

@LukeAlmighty @Bill_Boone @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum That’s why he needs a father to back him up. Sometimes dad just has to cut in with “Ah, leave him be, he’s growing into a man, let ‘im fuel up accordingly”

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty Equating nourishing sleep with laziness is exactly the kind of surface-level, substitute fixation to which The Dumbest Generation of Narcissists in the History of the World are prone. I think that the Boomers have always known, deep down in their bones, that they were a disappointing, spoiled generation, but their sheer demographic weight meant that everyone else has been raised in the neurotic shadow of their frantic defense against that knowledge, their pathetic attempts to fake the kind of grit their parents and grandparents had.

I don’t think it was their fault, mind: They didn’t choose to end up as badly head-fucked as they did. Nevertheless, the Great Cycle keeps grinding away, so it is now up to us to reverse their damage and un-fuck the common wisdom.

@cqi @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty I hate the real laziness as much as anyone, but I definitely notice that anything electronic seems to come down to “playing vidya games instead of ‘workin’!”

Doesn’t matter if you’re doing paid work in blender, graphic design, AV production, trading money, it’s all video games to them.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty If it were not touching anything with a screen as a proxy for laziness, it would be something else. The whole point of projection is that the projected knowledge, thought, or characteristic cannot possibly be coming from themselves, so it must be somewhere out there in the other person… and so, the world warps accordingly.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty Read "Why We Sleep" (Matthew Walker). It's extremely important that teens get more sleep than adults - IIRC their natural/unfucked-with average is about 10 hours a night. Public school and work schedules (for both parents and kids) make this hard to impossible. Kids suffer and society lives with the fucked up results.
@WashedOutGundamPilot @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty >boomerite take that sleep is by its very nature lazy
Omg I can hear in my mind the boomer
>well skeeter, you don't have enough time, what do you do between midnight and 6?
I sleep and dream about you dropping dead
@WashedOutGundamPilot @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty When I was going early to the gym at 5am for a while I saw this guy bringing his young son to do goofy ego lifts with bad form and improper guidance. I felt really bad for him.

@blaaablaaaa @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty For kid-kids, it’s less of an issue, they still got green bones so it’s not as vital, though still douchey. I’d only wake up early a few nights a week.

When the teens sleep over here I try to have them in bed by 10 pm, which usually works because we pack in a project or some chores so they’re falling asleep anyway. The ones who like doing stuff early will get up with me and do the morning chores, but I’ll still send the older ones back to sleep to get another couple hours if they’re groggy

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Bill_Boone @LukeAlmighty Still felt bad for him since it really wasn't productive. Yeah it's interesting that a brain doctor was noticing how harmful late nights and lack of sleep is for these kids basically saying it is creating very depressed and anxious kids spending their nights watching porn and on social media. Not to mention stunting their growth.
@WashedOutGundamPilot @LukeAlmighty yup, I let their body dictate their schedule. I'd be worried if they had a bunch of devices and were staying up all night, but all they get in their bedrooms are toys and books... and if they saty up late reading, well I can't get too upset about them doing what I did when I was their age.

It's just a bit of a pity that they will be back on the school schedule soon.
