First, you look up your laptop model, and how to enter "bios"
Second, you find a "boot options", and select CD
Third, you restart laptop with linux burned on it.
From there on, you will go through the process, and it will be all shown with nice graphics options written in normal english. The only "hard decision" will be to format the disk.
Ask friends, if they have some old laptop, that they no longer use, so you can practice :D
@LukeAlmighty Ventoy is an option for flash drives. You can put many downloaded ISOs on it without needing to destructively reformat it every time. The flash drive can still be used as a regular drive by putting a .ventoyignore file in folders you don't want it to show in its boot menu.

As long as you don't use some bootleg garbage tier flash drive you should be fine. Never had an issue myself. It's cheaper than buying an external CD/DVD drive and a stack of blanks.

I'm a little surprised to hear that there are modern laptops that even have CD drives. The one in my hands right now doesn't.
I can maybe see BluRay drives, which might naturally have some backward compatibility, but even that seems out of place. It sucks because I'm a fan of physical media.
