Quality of life is going up. 20 years ago cellphones and the internet were a luxury. Now most people that want them have them.
As to upper classes concentrating riches... It's all in the stock market. Papers. A bubble burst away. Elon Musk is worth 150 billion? Oh yeah? I'd like to see him exchange his wealth for actual money.
MAD implies rational actors. I'm not sure Putin is a rational actor anymore. Not saying he's nuts but he's not achieving anything and the only thing left to defend himself is gonna be the nukes soon enough.

It's not Putins fault. Big states of EU were turning off powerplants as well as increasing the demand for electricity for the last 10 years. It was retarded, but they thought, that Russian gas would save them.
Now, that we are dependent, we ""randomly"" decided to stop buying it (Putin is still willing to sell), and politicians act surprised, that we're fucked.
